AOK and High School Student Art Show

Art Opening: Friday, May 3rd at 5pm
On Display:
May 3rd – June 11th
Lobby Gallery & Madrona Room

To celebrate our island youth, a six-week student art exhibit is being hosted at the Orcas Center from May 3-June 12, 2024. The show features art created in A*OK classes, Kindergarten through 8th grade, as well as pieces from the Orcas Island High School.

We hope to see you at the opening and artist reception – Friday, May 3rd from 5:00 – 6:30 PM in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. Orcas Island High School art students will be giving brief talks about their work and these presentations should not be missed.

A*OK art projects this school year include polar bears, collages, painted clay Milagro hearts, pastel butterflies and flowers, Chiaozza sculptures, Basquiat portraits, student self portraits (some inspired by Frida Kahlo), Gustav Klimt Golden Trees, Georgia O’Keeffe poppies, fork Yetis, texture creatures, sugar skulls plus unique 3-D creature sculptures.

Help us celebrate 10 years of Art for Orcas Kids (A*OK) programming at the Orcas Public Schools. For a decade, A*OK, has operated as a program of Orcas Island Education Foundation (OIEF) and partners with the Orcas Island School District. Art is a state mandated core subject and the school district works with A*OK to provide a dedicated classroom and Certified Teaching Staff alongside our Teaching Artists to provide public elementary and middle school classes.

A*OK receives funding from the Orcas Island Community Foundation (OICF), ArtsFund Community Accelerator and ArtsWA (Washington State Arts Commission), as well as from fundraising events and generous private donations. To support our programs we hope you can join us at the upcoming EVERYTHING IS A*OK GALA & AUCTION! Sunday, June 9th, 2024 at 4:30 PM at Orcas Center. Tickets will be limited and go on sale May 1st.
