AOK Arts for Kids and the Visual Arts Committee Presents:

AOK and High School Student Art Show

On display April 14th – May 30th

High School Art Talk – Friday, April 28th 5-7pm
Lobby Gallery & Madrona Room

The Orcas Center is hosting an exhibit of A*OK and High School student art from April 14 through May 31st, 2023 featuring works from every K-5th grade student, including select middle and high school artwork.

Art for Orcas Kids (A*OK) is a program of the Orcas Island Education Foundation. The program brings teaching artists to Students (K-12) at the Orcas Island School District (OISD). Our teachers inspire students and bring visual arts to life through age-appropriate projects. We take pride in bringing art expression from a variety of cultures, historical perspectives and we seize the opportunity to expand students’ knowledge of unique life experiences, social justice and current issues.

Art on display will include student self portraits (some inspired by Frida Kahlo), Alma Thomas abstract pieces, beautiful Mexican Amate animal paintings, Charles McGee inspired paper sculptures, Georgia O’Keeffe poppy and bone projects, Chinese new year lanterns, Gee’s Bend quilt collages, penguins, snowy owls, spirit animals, Dia de Los Muertos skulls, plus Alebrije inspired creature sculptures, masks, and many more…

Thanks to our generous donors, A*OK is able to provide 20 weeks of  art lessons to elementary classes, a full year of art Exploratory classes to the middle school and a weekly drop-in high school art club taught by our Teaching Artists at the Orcas Island School District.

Did you miss the opening on Friday, April 14th? Come and see the Orcas Island High School art students give talks about their work on Friday, April 28th from 5pm-7pm.
