Behind the Scenes with The Olga Symphony

Saturday, February 6th at 7pm (Pacific)
Streaming on our homepage: www.OrcasCenter.org

For over 20 years, many folks on Orcas have enjoyed starting off the holiday season with a night at the Orcas Center with the Olga Symphony. Like so many other events, the annual concert can’t happen as usual this year, but never fear: the Symphony and the Center have teamed up to take you inside an Olga Symphony rehearsal!
Ever wonder how the Olga Symphony puts together their annual show? Do they actually rehearse for a show that seems so spontaneous, free-wheeling and….unrehearsed? What do they wear? Where does Anita get her jokes, and how in the world does she come up with ideas for the blend of songs affectionately known as the “Mash-Up?”
Join Gordon, Melinda, JP, Anita and Z for a live streaming of a rehearsal for the answers to these and many other questions about this Orcas institution. Over the years, many folks have said they would like to be “a fly on the wall” at a Symphony practice—perhaps to see if these non-symphonic musicians are having as much fun as it seems from the audience at shows.
Here is their chance! The usual mix of voice, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo, concertina, ukulele, and musical saw will be wielded by our fearless cast, along with various objects seldom seen on a concert stage.
So join in the fun on February 6th at 7pm and spend some time with the Olga Symphony in a “casual” atmosphere. Donations are encouraged to benefit the Orcas Center, but admission is free, so go to www.OrcasCenter.org/live for that welcome kick-start to the New Year!
