Visual Arts Committee Presents:

Fiber Magic

On display March 5th-March 30th

Opening Reception
Friday, March 6th
Lobby Gallery & Madrona Room

Join us for an evening celebrating fiber artists! Geoff Shilling will be the featured artist, with his work displayed in the Lobby. Geoff’s hand-woven images are made on a Jacquard Loom.  He starts with a photos he has taken, which he may manipulate and combine, then maps these designs into woven structures.  His images include Northwest landscapes, bridges, birds and trees.  These weavings are mounted on wooden frames so can can be hung much like a painting.

The Community Art Show is open to all Orcas Island Artists and this show particularly welcomes fiber artists. Delivery of work is scheduled for March 4th, 10:30am-12:30pm. Pickup of work is scheduled for April 1st, 10:30am-12:30pm. For more information about exhibiting your art visit the VAC page.

Call for Community Fiber Artists:

Orcas island has a wealth of artists who create with fiber in a variety of ways, weaving, knitting, felting, quilting, sewing and others.  The Visual Arts Committee at Orcas Center is highlighting these beautiful creations through the month of March.  We are seeking pieces which are meant to be displayed as art, and also those that are wearable.

We have received an enthusiastic response to this show, many fiber artists have never had an opportunity to show their work at the Center.   We hope to hang as many pieces from as many artists as possible, but depending on size, space may be an issue.

We hope to have a few on-going demonstrations at the reception.  If you are interested in providing a demonstration or have any other questions, please call Kathy Youngren, 360.472.0824 or Janis Mattox, 360.376.3778.
