Orcas Choral Society: Comfort and Joy

Celebrate the season with joyous song, as the Orcas Choral Society presents its holiday concert, “Comfort and Joy.” Expect new twists on your favorite carols old and new. We’ll be joined by visiting Orcas instrumentalists Martin Lund and Kaj Litch plus instrumental offerings from Choral Society members Marilyn Andrews, Jim Shaffer-Bauck, Patty Johnson, and Terri Triplett. A great time will be had by all!

Orcas Island Community Band Holiday Concert

No one has to be alone, nor spend any money at the holidays.   Please receive the gift of music and join the Orcas Island Community Band for a holiday concert Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 3:00pm at Orcas Center.  This annual community concert is a favorite with musical selections ranging from marches to show tunes and of course sounds of the season and sing-a-longs.  The diversity of the music and of the age of musicians is sure to delight because music is the universal language.  Admission is by donation and audience members are treated to a dessert reception afterwards.

Home for the Holidays 2019

Come “Home for the Holidays” with the Crow Valley String Band and Brograss on Friday December 20th at the Orcas Center. Rachel, Jim, Tashi and Kaj will be joined by Anyway Thompson, Carl Burger, Dave Zoeller, Hailey Averna, Howard Barbour, Martin Lund and Robb Eagle for an evening of live music, stories, aerial acrobatics and laughter to embrace the long December night and welcome Christmas, just around the corner!

An Evening of Off-Center Acts

The Black Box Theatre is where we can showcase edgier, experimental artists and forms, and 2020 kicks off with an “Off-Center” music event featuring three live music acts and wrapping up with a DJ set.

Headlining the event is San Francisco singer / songwriter John Thompson. Supporting local acts include the incendiary song hammers of Ed Word (aka Matt Helms) the unbridled melodies and enthusiasm of Skeleton, aka Pedro Lopez and Kellen Comrie. After the sonic samplings of these three craftsmen, we will push our chairs and cares aside and dance to a 2 x 4 DJ set by locals Luka Palisæde (aka Stephen Fairweather) and Jake Perrine.

Whale of a Show – Rescheduled!

For over 15 years, Whale of a Show has featured youth of all ages sharing their passions and talents on center stage. But in the olden days, Whale of a Show was performed by adults! We're bringing back the Adult Whale of a Show on Friday, January 17th!

“Whale of a Show” is an island tradition that includes singing, dancing, theater, musical performances, and more! Come see your fellow islanders show off their talents on center stage!  After all, why should we let the kids have all the fun?

Triple Americana: Carolyn Cruso with Tom Rawson & Ellen van DerHoeven

Tune up your vocal chords, you’ll need em! Three of the NW’s finest troubadours, Tom Rawson, Ellen van der Hoeven, and Carolyn Cruso, are bringing a night of Triple Americana: songs, stories, harmonies and tunes inspired by the coffeehouse to Orcas Center. Throughout the evening, Susan Slapin's artwork will be displayed in the background. Susan’s artwork is poetic in nature, with an emphasis on both the world of intuitive color, and relative abstractions of the natural world.

Martin Taylor with Special Guest Gene Nery

Martin Taylor is a multi-award winning guitarist and Acoustic Guitar magazine calls him ‘THE Acoustic Guitarist of his Generation’. He dazzles audiences with his solo shows, which combine virtuosity, emotion, humor, and a strong stage presence while his inimitable style has seen him recognized as the world’s foremost exponent of solo fingerstyle guitar playing. Taylor has invented and developed a way of playing the guitar that is admired, and often imitated, by guitarists all over the world.

Che Apalache

Orcas Center 917 Mt. Baker Road, Eastsound, WA

Che Apalache began as a bluegrass band, but eventually incorporated Latin American styles into their repetoire. Combining instrumental prowess with tight vocal harmonies, they have curated an authentic blend of genres to reflect the nature of their lives, evoking images from Appalachia to the Andes. Their most recent album, Rearrange My Heart, is produced by banjo legend Béla Fleck.

The Gothard Sisters

An Evening with George Winston – POSTPONED!

George Winston is undeniably a household name. He’s inspired fans and musicians alike with his singular solo acoustic piano songs for more than 40 years while selling 15 million albums. A tireless road warrior playing nearly 100 concerts annually, live performance for Winston is akin to breathing. Winston’s music is evocative, offering us all a chance to take a step back from our perpetually busy lives and let our minds adventurously wander.
