Aloysia Friedmann, Artistic Director
Jon Kimura Parker, Artistic Advisor

Tickets available May 16, 2019
$10 – $40

Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann presents a brilliant assemblage of internationally renowned performers in the ten concerts of Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival’s 22nd season.

The Festival begins August 2nd and 3rd with stunning mezzo-soprano and Metropolitan Opera star Susan Graham, accompanied by the inimitable pianist Jon Kimura Parker. The final concerts on August 16th and 17th feature the world premiere of a new string quartet by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts, performed by the Miró Quartet. This year’s Festival also features LA Philharmonic principal violinist Martin Chalifour performing with Slovenian guitarist Mak Grgić and violinist Chee-Yun, playing the dazzling Chausson Concerto. A new addition to this year’s line-up is a pair of engaging daytime talks with former Seattle Symphony director Gerard Schwarz and well-known Canadian radio personality Eric Friesen. The Festival has reached out far and near to bring performers who are new to OICMF and welcomes many veterans back to the Festival stage this season. Audiences will enjoy the delightful energy in all of these live performances, from classical mainstays to newly composed works, sprinkled with a bit of magic!

August 10th
Guitar Workshop with Mak Grgić
Free, Registration Required: Tracy@OICMF.org

We are thrilled to announce a fun and educational addition to the Festival this August – on Saturday, August 10th, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, guitarist Mak Grgić will be leading a hands-on workshop in the Madrona Room. All guitarists, all styles, are invited to bring your instruments and join in. Mak will share general guitar techniques and inspirations that will work for anyone who enjoys playing around with 6 – or 12 – strings.
Mak Grgic has quickly established himself as one of the up-and-coming performers in the guitar world, whose works range from the avant-garde to film scores to the great classics of guitar repertoire and transcriptions of Brahms and Kreisler. As a testament to his versatility and wide-ranging appeal, in 2018 Mak was invited by legendary singer-songwriter k.d. lang to perform as the opening act for the North American leg of her Ingénue Redux Tour.
Don’t miss this opportunity to work closely with an immensely talented and generous musician! There is no charge to attend, but you must register with Tracy at tracy@oicmf.org by August 9th if you wish to attend. Bring your guitar and we’ll see you there!
For more information about Mak, you can visit his website at www.makgrgic.com, and listen to samples of his talents at: http://www.makgrgic.com/cinema-verismo.
