Bahia in Motion

Bahia in Motion

Bahia In Motion is a Brazilian Arts organization based in Seattle, WA offering classes, events and workshops in Brazilian dance, music and Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts).  Bahia In Motion partners with arts organizations both locally and internationally to provide education and outreach regarding the cultural heritage of Brazil.  Bahia In Motion also runs yearly cultural immersion tours to Bahia, Brazil.

Bahia In Motion’s work is firmly rooted in the importance of a balanced body, mind and spirit and the integral role the arts play in nurturing this balance. Bahia In Motion is driven by the belief that individuals and families thrive when they feel healthy, engaged and part of something larger than themselves, especially when learning from cultures outside their own.  Bahia In Motion encourages people to find joy within themselves, and transform life’s challenges through movement and the power of human connection.

The pieces from Bahia In Motion’s Orcas Island show spans several cultural traditions from Brazil:  Dances of the Afro-Brazilian Orixas from Bahia, Frevo and Xaxado from the Northeast region of Pernambuco, Samba, with its roots in Bahia which spread to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and throughout Brazil, and Capoeira, the Brazilian Martial Art, born out of the resistance against slavery in Salvador Bahia.

Good Lovelies

With nine critically acclaimed releases, a #1 single, a JUNO Award, several Canadian Folk Music Awards, and a devoted fanbase blanketing the globe, roots-pop combo Good Lovelies are among Canada’s brightest musical lights. The hardworking trio of Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Susan Passmore — guitar-wielding songwriters all, and queens of the goose bump–raising three-part harmony – wear age 14 (they formed in 2006) with grace and ambition, and are poised to soar even higher in the roaring 2020s on every conceivable front. There’s writing, recording and performing, to be sure, but also tangible green initiatives, a plan to achieve gender parity in the studio, and a bold embrace of the digital age.

GOOD LOVELIES ARE:

Caroline Brooks: Lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitars
Kerri Ough: Lead vocals, keyboard, banjo, acoustic guitar, omnichord
Susan Passmore: Lead vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar, synth
